I fucking love writing.

But not in the nose-in-the-air “I’m a poet and a novelist and a composer and I correct people’s grammar in public” sense. I’m not methodical. I don’t approach content with a surgeons precision. I probably don’t take “proper” syntax too seriously. I don’t know what auxiliaries and modals are. But what I do know how to do is spark the emotions of a reader. I know how to get people to think deeper and consider an alternative opinion. My work isn’t something you’d marvel at from a technical standpoint, but god dammit, it’s going to make you think. If I were a painter, I would be a little less Da Vinci and a little more Dali.

You don’t need to be a wordsmith or a book nerd to create content that catalyzes an emotion and then an action in your reader — you need to be a salesperson. You need to know your audience, understand their intrinsic motivators, and speak their love language. Good content starts with understanding individual groups of humans and their feelings and knowing how to capture and sustain interest. You don’t need to pass Composition 4000 to be able to crank out great prose when you’re writing for the business world. You just need to be able to properly convey value in a way that doesn’t put your audience to sleep.

Speaking of value, here’s my hit list:

I’ve been writing professionally for over a decade. I’ve been a freelancer, a ghost writer, and I’ve worked in agencies. I’ve done long-form, short-form, digital, print, ebooks, white papers, hardback business books, song lyrics, you name it. My work has been featured in literally thousands of publications including Forbes, Adweek, Business Insider, Harvard Business Review, NBC, ESPN, CBS, and Nasdaq, to name a few. I’ve done extensive work with the St. Louis Blues and St. Louis Cardinals, the latter of which I worked as a beat writer for years.

I’m also a seasoned social media marketer and data analyst as a result of the years I’ve spent working at high-growth marketing agencies and understand how to interpret marketing data from Google, Facebook, etc, interpret it, and give you brass-tacks, no-bullshit metrics around the performance of our work. If we work together, your service doesn’t stop when your content is created or published. I can help you improve your metrics and drive more attention, more traffic, more leads, and more sales as a result.

On a personal level, I’m a pretty regular mid-30’s white dude that lives in St. Louis City. I spend my free time obliterating softballs, enjoying a craft beer or six, and hanging out with my Corgi, Koopa.

Let’s hang out and writer some awesome stuff. Frivolity will ensue.

Stephen

His knowledge in writing, developing and maintaining relationships, and social media marketing are unmatched and I learned more from him than I have in all my years in marketing combined.

 Kayla S. — Marketing Director

I've worked with Stephen in more than one than one digital agency and I have to say that his skill set is one of the most impressive I've ever seen. He's a sharp copywriter and amazing marketing strategist. While he shins in content marketing and public relations, he is able to adapt to any role within the marketing world. He's one of the most talented and hard-working people I've ever had the pleasure of working with.”

Sam K.— Project Manager

We were never out of the loop, he always suggested and implemented the right strategy, and was consistently available for feedback and listening to what we needed as clients. He genuinely cares about the people and companies he works with, and he's always persistently helpful.

Stefan M. — Product Marketer

“From the moment he joined us, our team has seen a long run of successes. Stephen brings a naturally warm and bright professionalism to every interaction, and his outstanding people skills make working with him a true pleasure for his clients. If you are seeking a dedicated, hardworking, imaginative and incredibly driven player, be sure to keep Stephen Nations in the top slot of your draft picks.
